WASHINGTON David H. Petraeus, the former director of the Central Intelligence Agency, told lawmakers on Friday that classified intelligence reports revealed that the deadly assault on the American diplomatic mission in Libya was a terrorist attack, but that the administration refrained from saying it suspected that the perpetrators of the attack were Al Qaeda affiliates and sympathizers to avoid tipping off the groups. Mr. Petraeus, who resigned last week after admitting to an extramarital affair, said the names of groups suspected in the attack including Al Qaedas franchise in North Africa and a local Libyan group, Ansar al-Shariah were removed from the public explanation of the attack immediately after the assault to avoiding alerting the militants that American intelligence and law enforcement agencies were tracking them, lawmakers said.

Sadly true, and these sheep do not deserve the country they feed off of. Soon the parasites will bring down the host and then they will blame everyone but themselves.
This entire subject is a feint.
The real issue concerns the who and why of the fact that the U. S. refused to send military help to the victims of the attack.
The who part is so obviously Obama that it isn’t even a stretch. The why needs to be discovered.
I think that I figured out both the who and the why. Like you said, the who has to be Obama. The why is because they were watching the attack in real time from the surveillance cameras inside the compound. They knew that the ambassador was dead and issued a Stand Down, never giving a thought to the rest of the people at the CIA facility a mile away and by the time the second wave of the attack had begun, Obama had gone to bed to make sure that he got his beauty sleep for the campaign trip the next day. Obama slept through the second wave of the attack and his senior advisors, down in the situation room made the decision not to do nothing to rescue the rest of the people in Benghazi, who were still waiting for help to arrive.
My guess is that Clapper was in that situation room and that he is the one who concocted the story about the video, denying that it was an Al Qaeda terror attack because it had been their advice to Obama that persuaded him to prematurely issue the Stand Down. Those advisors were already in CYA mode the night of 9/11.
While Obama didn’t know about the second wave of the attack until the next morning, he most certainly knew that there was no peaceful protest.
You have to remember that to post modernist progressives, truth is a relative term and that everything depends on what the definition of “is” is. One man’s terrorist, is another man’s freedom fighter, or protester. To the Obama administration, the video is simply symbolic of everything that the West has done to offend the Islamists. To the Obama people, a lie is not a lie, unless it is told by a capitalist conservative.
I agree, the excuse that they deleted the information to keep it classified because they were tracking the Al Qaeda groups is BS. I heard that they were indeed tracking the Al Qaeda group, they were tracking them because they had information that some of the weapons that the US had supplied to Libyan rebels were in the hands of the Al Qaeda group.
There was no need to keep it a secret because the Libyan officials had been saying it since before the attack began. Even if the Obama people did want to keep the Al Qaeda connection a secret, that doesn’t excuse the lie about the video and the peaceful protest. It just doesn’t follow.
They think us stupid at their peril.
this may be nothing more than NYSlimes parsing Patreaus testimony
“the names” of the specific terrorist groups may have been left out; the fact, and the mention that terrorists were behind the attack was not
I guess , like they’ve never heard of Facebook and My’Air’Space and Tweeter
