A rift has emerged between Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) over the timing of a deficit-reduction deal, which they discussed at the White House Friday.
The disagreement stems from a battle for leverage. Democrats want to strike an agreement now, when their political capital is at a high point following the election. They feel their position is further strengthened by the pending expiration of the Bush tax cuts and scheduled cuts to defense spending.

Boehner's trying to stall. Once Obamacare mandates start kicking in early next year, Obama's popularity is likely to nosedive making it a better time for Repubs to negotiate.
The only ‘rift’ these guys are having is what cocktail lounge to go to after the dog and pony show is over.
Let Obama eat his words that sequestration would “never happen”. His reelection was a disaster. Let the damn social spending be cut.
Someone please tell me—who is on our side?
So damn hard to tell...
The Bush tax cuts will go “Poof” and the Dems will make sure it’s called the “GOP Tax Increase” and not the “The Barry Tax Increase”
With their government mandated socialism, they’ll never manage to reduce the deficit now; not with the economy in the sh*tter and tax revenues down accordingly.
No matter what they tax, or at what rate - and they’re already taxing everything in sight and at astronomical rates - the debt will only continue to grow.
We are now a socialist republic in all but name, and no matter how much of our national wealth our government Masters confiscate in the name of “fairness,” we are destined to join the Soviet Union, Communist China and so many others in the economic trash bin.
Maybe someone could give Boehner a prayer rug to “Rollover” on. It’s coming
Looks like Obama’s lets make a deal light isn’t working on the deficit-reduction plan.
...”cuts to defense spending:” about $37-38 billion per year. Other spending cuts: probably over $350 billion per year. The Democrats have also put themselves in the position of only going through with about $40 billion in tax hikes per year instead of about $375 per year (committed themselves to income ranges and other numbers).
Many in all sides of politics are afraid of the spending cuts (too many government incomes and other dependencies in politics in general).
Agreed. There is no reason for the House GOP to hurry things along—it would only help the Rats.
You had to bring that up.
It will take another half bottle of Jack to forget. And another 20 choruses of “that g@ddam Rove.”
Neither one is on our side and I'm really getting tired of having their "thoughts" regurgitated in the national media every day.
Neither one has two brain cells to rub together.

I hope you're right about Boehner's plan. I know you're right about what happens when Obamacare actually starts eating into people's pockets and freedom.
