Medical supply giant Stryker is the latest company to announce job cuts in anticipation of coming costs associated with ObamaCare, even though the man who inherited a fortune from the company's founder is a fan. The company will cut 1,170 jobs, or five percent of its worldwide workforce, despite the fact that the founder's grandson was one of the largest contributors to President Obamas re-election campaign. Medical tech scion Jon Stryker, whose net worth is currently estimated at $1.2 billion, contributed $2 million to the Priorities USA Action super PAC and has given $66,000 in contributions to Obama and the Democratic Party. Stryker does not run the company. A "medical device excise tax" included in the mandate imposes a 2.3 percent levy on medical device manufacturers and suppliers, which critics say will raise prices on everything from pacemakers to prosthetics to stents. Companies will be required to pay the tax regardless if they have a profit or loss for the year. The tax is estimated to cost the medical device industry $20 billion. House Republicans tried to have the tax repealed, drafting a bill called the Protect Medical Innovation Act, but the Democrat-controlled Senate has blocked the measure....

Maybe they can apply to teach math. Mr. Obama said he is going to hire 10,000 new math teachers and this will off set this massive layoff.
crud, I did a search.
What maker will be left to generate real goods to pay for those teachers?
I am so sick of the left and their imaginary la la land where everything is rainbows and lollipops. We need to remind them that they and Obama did this.
So, these people were hoping for an obama victory so they could fire people??
With people over 80 not qualifying for such devices because of the patient’s limited “shelf life,” these companies won’t be doing so well anyway. Big pharma will also see their markets shrink as expensive brand-name prescriptions will be rationed.
There is no way that 30 million uninsured can get health care without restricting services to those that are currently costing Medicare too much.
Probably a job for them under the Obamacare bureaucracy. /sarc
Well, at least funeral homes and casket makers will prosper.
“at least funeral homes and casket makers will prosper.”
Once they finish confiscating our wealth, we’re all going to die paupers and won’t have one of those fancy funerals.
First we’ll face the death panel, then they’ll throw us into a pine box in the back of the same panel truck that transports our grave diggers and their shovels.
Add 30 million patients & subtract 60% of the work force that is doctors & other specialists.....
That should work really well!!!!
Are caskets also called ‘medical devices’??? Another source of tax.
Jon Stryker is a tool and needs to study his history and economics before making anymore “contributions”.
In the meantime, I suggest ALL Freepers ask a business who they voted for before buying their services. My tally so fay:
1- My favorite coffee shop voted Romney. I buy coffee
2- A local pizza place voted Obama. No more of their pizza
3- My dry cleaners voted Obama. They won’t get my shirts anymore
I always ask up front, “who did the owner/manager vote for”.
I have a local small town restaurant/pizza joint owner who immigrated from Italy. I found out that he was an obummer supporter before the first debacle of an election. We had a good go round. The main problem was one of his dippy waitresses did not know who to vote for until she asked him. He did the usual brainwash on her. I don’t go there anymore and never will.
A candidate running for City council stopped by my home the other day. Nice young man, took his brochure, no mention of Party. First thing I asked: Are you a Republican?
He said yes, and because the question caught him off guard, I have to believe he is telling the truth, will see.
I told him, it is very important for that to be known. Why do they try to hide their best asset?
Obama is creating 16,000 new jobs, I.R.S. agents to enforce Obamacare, give the guy a little credit.
