but the whole point about lying to the American people about an intelligence assessment is not the big story here.
The scandal here is that the President of the United States left 41 people to die at the hands of terrorists. Luck for them there were a few former SEALS among them, or they would all be dead, not just the SEALS, the ambassador and another diplomat.
The President could have ordered a rescue operation from outside the country, that would have had a high probability of success. Knowing full well that these Americans were under terrorist attack - the POTUS refused to authorize their rescue. That is why, Petraeus, Ham, the Admiral in the Med carrier group were all fired. They wanted, perhaps even resigned over not being permitted to launch the rescue. They were ready.

Petraeus went along with the lie at first.
When he decided to come clean Obama fulfilled his threat and revealed the affair in retaliation.
Blackmail and dereliction of duty are high crimes.
