Democratic Socialism is actually a good and necessary instrument for a free society; its true meaning has been demonized by the right in order to allow the corporate rich to get even richer. The misguided have been told that any form of socialism is evil and can be compared to Nazism. Non-thinking people get very frightened to hear this analysis and will vote against anything they believe appears to resemble this disastrous form of government even if it means rejecting benefits that will improve their own well being.
A nation will not survive without Democratic Socialism. It's socialism that provides a fire department and police protection and schools to educate all children not just those born to the well off.
Democratic Socialists believe that both the economy and society should be run democraticallyto meet public needs, not to make profits for a few. To achieve a more just society, many structures of our government and economy must be radically transformed through greater economic and social democracy so that ordinary Americans can participate in the many decisions that affect our lives

First Brown Then Red!
First Occupy Wall Street, Then Occupy Main Street!
They have a Plan, we need a plan too.
The I pine for the days of Coolidge and Reagan.
Sadly the people today, both left and right, scoff and laugh at our successors to them, Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, All The Tea Party Freshman it sickens and saddens me.

Shouldn’t the question be: Why do so many “smart” people continue to try socialism when it has never worked, anywhere its been tried?

Unfortunately conservatives don't seem interested in long term plans. My rant on our failure to recognize and work on a plan going forward. After all, there's a reason we blew up all those factories in Germany.
Ive been thinking about the road to long term victory and a return to a more traditional America and it seems to me that were so busy trying to take the castle that were leaving the marxist supply lines unscathed. We can take out the marxist at the top and another will be ready to take his place.
We have got to take control of education and end the production of new marxists. Pulling our kids out of the public schools is fine but it leaves the machine untouched and still pumping out new marxists. We also need to look at who built the machine, who maintains it and how to destroy their ability to do it again.
I wonder how many Americans went to the polls on Tuesday and gave any kind of priority to university boards of regents? These are positions that can cripple men like William Ayers who created much of the marxist indoctrination of our teachers that was and is then carried to the pre schools all the way back to the universities.
Here in Michigan I voted for tea party republican Rob Steel for 1 of 2 seats on the university board of regents. Steel finished 3rd meaning that two former union reps took the two positions. Unfortunately only a fraction of the people who voted for Romney, voted for Steel and most will say Who? if I say it today. Virtually every single state level education position went to democrats because we didnt care enough about those races to bother voting in them.

Why do so many smart people continue to try socialism when it has never worked, anywhere its been tried? It's a halo word. Something that people decide in advance has to be good and persist in believing good regardless of the consequences.

I just want to add one thing to you analogy to your Bombing Germany into submission allegory.
In 1943 during the Raids on places like Schweinfurt, German war production actually Increased.
The total destruction of German Factories only succeeded once the Luftwaffe was destroyed utterly.
So we need to kick people like Billy Ayers out of the School System first, otherwise we are not making any headway.

Holy mackerel! When I first saw this, I thought it said "20TH CENTURY MOTORS!" At work today, I was listening to the Atlas Shrugged audio book, and I was listening to the part where Dagney and Hank are trying to track down the inventor of the motor. And they kept interviewing people who pretty much said, word for word, the drivel in this article.

They are cockroaches and should be smashed flat.
They only deserve a modern day ride out of town on a rail.
This is the political “Escape from reality” in its most putrid sense. Dog shite stinks and no amount of propaganda can tell me its roses.
Communism and any of its relative acquaintances such as fascism and Marxism is not nor ever will be my cup of tea, I chose to have whatever bias, bigotry or just unbridled hatred against it, its my choice.

Because socialism is antithetical to individual liberty...other wise known as the American system and the Bill of Rights. Either the needs of the individual reigns over the needs of the state or the needs of the state reign over the need of the individual. You can’t have it both ways.

I don’t know that it scares ignorant people all that much, but the author shows his own ignorance. It scares the hell out of the People who love Freedom because those that espouse it don’t see “democratic socialism” as a necessary evil which must be contained so it doesn’t spread - they see it as an avenue to true tyrannical despotism.

Isn’t “democratic socialism” an oxymoron? I’m no up on all the nuances of government-related words, but these two don’t seem to fit together well.
