It probably wasn't happenstance that California's historic good or bad, it's historic experiment in greenhouse gas regulation was delayed until after an election in which voters would be deciding on new taxes.
California's utility costs are already among the highest in the nation. The Public Utilities Commission staff and the utilities themselves have warned that the transition will sharply increase bills.
Californians also pay more than most other Americans for gasoline and diesel fuel, thanks to our unique refining requirements, and the Air Resources Board is pushing refiners to go even further toward "clean fuels," which will be more costly.
This is a huge experiment in altering Californians' economy and lifestyles.
Whether it pans out or not, the short-run costs will be immense.

Thank God some sanity has returned to Michigan. We voted down our green energy mandate that would have killed us.
Coming years should provide some interesting comparison lessons worth watching.

If I were the dictator of this country......
I’d cut all funding to CA from the Fed and tell them they can stop sending taxes. You’re on your own until you get your finances in order.
....That’s if I were the elected dictator.

I live here and the Chamber of Commerce is suing the State for an unconstitutional law. The idiots who voted themselves tax hikes, a train to nowhere and to tax “millioniares” who make $250,000 voted for this Cap and Trade plan.
They have no clue and do what their grivance group or union tells them to do.

For those of you who feel so smug, look who is Pres. Hussein's EPA will force the rest of the US to buy into this crap with regulations to be released in a few weeks.

All that remains is for Moonbeam Brown to construct a cinderblock wall topped with barbed wire around the entire state to keep his victims from escaping. Oh, wait......hasn’t that been tried somewhere before?

'How well did a government-run green energy policy work in Spain? Story here from Pajamas Media. (H/T Stuart Scheidernman) Keep in mind that the socialists under Zapatero are running Spain now, and thats where this green energy policy came from. Is it working out for socialist Spain? Excerpt:
Pajamas Media has received a leaked internal assessment produced by Spains Zapatero administration. The assessment confirms the key charges previously made by non-governmental Spanish experts in a damning report exposing the catastrophic economic failure of Spains green economy initiatives. the document reveals exactly why electricity rates necessarily skyrocketed in Spain, as did the public debt needed to underwrite the disaster. This internal assessment preceded the Zapatero administrations recent acknowledgement that the green economy stunt must be abandoned, lest the experiment risk Spain becoming Greece. The government report does not expressly confirm the highest-profile finding of the non-governmental report: that Spains green economy program cost the country 2.2 jobs for every job created by the state. However, the figures published in the government document indicate they arrived at a job-loss number even worse than the 2.2 figure from the independent study.'

Somehow, CA’s debt to GDP ratio is around 10%... the US is at 105%. ($16T for a $15T GDP.) The IMF calls 125% unsustainable

They are already tough to swallow. In the summer our electric bill runs $600 a month. We keep it set on 79 or 80. We also have 2 swamp coolers that we can run as long as it’s not 114.
Guess I can expect $1 k bills now.

Oh, I think we’re well aware that California’s great ideas are coming to us all. If you live in a major city in the deepest red state, the ideas have been wafting in from the more diseased parts of the country for some time. It’s just the blue states going first.
