After reviewing our records, I was incorrect regarding W. Virginia. He was born in Rappahannock, Virginia. It's been a long time since I reviewed these records. Thankfully I have them saved on my laptop.
His father was born in 1623 at Isle of Wight,England, United Kingdom. He came to what is now Richmond, VA in 1642. I'm still looking for additional details.
What became Richmond was at that time known as Manakin Towne. It was a Huguenot settlement. I have one line from there, surname variously spelled Faure, Fauree, Foree, Fore or Ford. Still have male relatives with Ford as a given name. Old, southern thing, using a prominent maternal surname as a given name. Willis and Thornton as given names too, same genesis, early Virginia.
If you're into genealogy that's the sort of loose thread that can get you past a brick wall in your research. People migrated in groups typically, too. You'll see some of the same surnames over and over as they migrate from one place to the next. Intermarriage was frequent, so you can try looking in already familiar places for seeming dead end maternal lines if you have them. Most do.
