There are little bits tying him to the old bond plotlines, although I thought the vintage Aston Martin was a little over the top. Admittedly, they did work it into the plot in as believable a way as they probably could.

If you have seen Casino Royale, Bond won the car in a poker game in the Bahamas just a few years ago. It is a perfectly acceptable prop in the movie, although the gadgets added like the ejector seat et. al were from Goldfinger.
