We really need a clear operational definition of “Reaching Out.”

If that means agreeing with demands, concessions in the hope to be finally liked, it will not work.

If, on the other hand it means making the case for our beliefs and showing them why it behooves them to follow our succeful model, it might work.

It is not as if the Republicans have been unfriendly, racist or unwelcoming. Quite the contrary. McCain was staunchly in the “legalize the illegals” corner, as was W. Bush. Did it result in ANY additional support in 2008? Did Reagan’s amnesty do it? Did some Republicans supporting the “Dream Act” help? Rubio’s reaching out? Or is this narrative really just a construction to channel Republicans to think that they MUST have Jeb Bush in 2016?

The way the reaching out has been done results so far in those special interest groups staying with Democrats, and Republicans losing their base who see little reason to work for a party which agrees with the opposition party. Republicans lose both the issue and even more votes.

We do not have an Hispanic problem. We have an immigrant, minority, and younger voter problem. The changing demographics of this country have electoral consequences and have for decades except the Rep political elites and pundits have failed to recognize it. Some of it has to do with the huge influence the Chamber of Commerce has over the GOP. They have been pushing more guest workers, more immigrants, and amnesty to keep the flow of cheap exportable labor coming into this country to reduce wages and increase profits. In the process they have privatized the benefits and socialized the costs, which are killing our schools, healthcare, and law enforcement.

Now the solution appears to embrace amnesty as a way of getting more minority and immigrant votes. The exact opposite will happen as it will increase Dem voters and lose more of the GOP base who will be upset about such a move.

57% of immigrant headed households with children are on welfare. Hispanics have an out of wedlock birthrate of 50%. They have the highest school drop out rate of any group. They are a natural Dem constituency.

I should have qualified this better. My point is to have more education of the conservative way. One quick example was in Ohio. Romney had set up 6 offices statewide. The Democrats had 133. You cannot win an election when you allow the opposition to have this number of offices during an election in an important swing state and expect to win. I personally volunteer to teach ESL on weekends for free. I also work into my class civics and history. I am trying to do my part to affect as many potential voters as I can in a positive way. Just my 2 cents. We must do more than what we are currently doing.
