“Quickly came word that this banal observation might raise the ire of the Israel Lobby, which insists that no American in a responsible position ever say, or perhaps even think, that our unconditional support for an apartheid regime on the West Bank, might, just maybe, piss off other Muslims and Arabs and have a negative impact on our overall relations with that part of the world.”
Apartheid regime!
Since when is Israel an apartheid regime?
Methinks Scott McConnell is an antisemitic bigot.

McConnels is an antisemitic bigot. The "American Conservative" magazine was founded to whine that Jews stole their jobs in the Reagan Administration (the so-called neo cons).
As for Petraus, we need someone who understands Islam -- not an appeaser who blames the Jews for everything that goes on in that region or even the world at large. Gen. Petraus can take his mistress and live on an island somewhere.

The article is right about his comments being a banal observation of fact. The Isreli/Palestinian conflict complicates US relations with the Arab/Muslim world.
Whether Israel is an apartheid state is a debatable point, with the answer depending mainly on definitions. That Arabs/Muslims view it as such is just another banal recitation of reality.

Methinks Scott McConnell is an antisemitic bigot.Outrageous to call Israel an apartheid regime! Might as well call the US the same because the Marxist sees us that way.
You're right about that guy.
