Biggest mistake of the campaign? Republicans assumed voters were smart

Let’s face facts. Democrats gained in the House of Representatives, the Senate and the chief Democrat in charge was re-elected after one of the worst four year periods in American history, economically and constitutionally. How does that happen? Republicans/Conservatives gave voters credit for being smart while Democrats assumed they’re not. Let’s break down what Obama, Pelosi, Reid, the Obama SuperPACs, et al were saying for a year and a half: Republicans are prosecuting a war on women Romney only cares about his rich friends and Wall Street Romney is responsible for the death of a woman by somehow giving her cancer Romney specialized in closing down businesses, laying people off and outsourcing jobs — especially to China Romney is a liar. All he does is lie. And, after he lies, he lies about the lies he told. Republicans are trying to outlaw contraception Republicans are trying to close down Planned Parenthood to stop women from getting cancer screenings Republicans want to put all Latinos on buses and send them back to Mexico Republicans think rape is okay — and women should just stop talking about it Republicans all own stock in oil companies and are forcing gas prices up Republicans want to give rich people a tax break and make the poor and Middle Class to make up the difference Romney hates half the country (47%) Romney will end Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid Only problem with that list is, not one bit of it is true. Republicans/conservatives assumed everyone hearing this list of Democrat/liberal talking points would know it was completely false. They gave the American people credit for being smart enough to know better. Millions are and do — but, unfortunately, more millions aren’t and don’t.

I hear you.

I really think many republicans are in denial.

The vast majority of people are in the normal range on the Bell Curve. That’s why it’s a bell shape. Very few people at the far edges.

A lot of the problem is that the pundits speak a very high level of English compared to that understood by the normal people at even the top of the curve, not to mention all those normal people on the left-hand side before you reach abnormal.

We need to dumb it down if we want to communicate. If we don’t, the people dumb it down for us, and take only the most visual, simplistic words out of context and use them mistakenly to our disadvantage. With the help of that part of the media who have their degrees in distortion.

You and I are saying about the same thing.

Average is not smart, its average, with about 50% of the degree of understanding that the upper 5% posess.

Politics is all about communicating to that lump in the middle.

Yes, I was just quibbling about the absolute numbers involved. The vast numbers are what make mistaken notions seem correct—normative behavior.

Also, not only do they not understand the issues, they are not political. They think they are, when a presidential election comes along, but that is only a surge of interest generated by the fact that it is the biggest news story. They haven’t a glimmer of what intelligent and political people think about day and night.

At a seminar I went to several years ago, the guy drew a picture on that large flip pad that they use. It was of two heads. He drew a huge circle in one of them that almost filled the whole head. “This is the amount of your brain that is devoted to politics,” he said. The he drew a little tiny circle in the other head, and said, “And this is everybody else.”

They’ll all be dealt with. Give it time.

Please elaborate. What do you foresee in terms of charging, prosecuting and convicting the cheaters and fraudsters? These crimes are extremely serious and the perps can't escape unscathed if there is any hope of preserving our republic other than by a military coup.

Thanks justiceseeker93. Ignoring for the moment the probable ballot fraud by the Demwits — because that’s not a new phenomenon — Zero had a nearly-unanimous, highly motivated turnout by his coreligionists (his fellow muzzies) and self-identified blacks, also strong support from Latinos, from Roman Catholics (only half of them), Jews (who aren’t a huge bloc of votes), women, and first-time voters. It was enough votes to sew up 50 percent of the overall votes cast.
