Even as the lights came for many who lost power in New York and New Jersey during the superstorm and a later nor'easter, hundreds of residents protested Saturday outside a Long Island utility, frustrated by its slow response to outages. Power restoration has been slower there than in other areas hit by Superstorm Sandy, sparking criticism of the Long Island Power Authority. Some of the 130,000 blacked out homes and businesses the utility serves may not have power restored until the end of Tuesday, LIPA said. In the rest of the region hardest hit by the storm, most service was expected to be restored by the end of the weekend, though that doesn't include tens of thousands of homes too damaged to juice up. "We are sitting in a cold house. No one comes by," said John Mangin of Levittown, N.Y. "There should be criminal charges against the CEO and the executive board of LIPA for failure to do their jobs." He was among about 300 people staging a rally in front of LIPA's office in Hicksville, N.Y. Not all were without power, but some who have power said they were there to protest LIPA's lack of communication. LIPA chief operating officer Michael Hervey said they were aware customers haven't gotten the information they've needed from the utility, partly because of an outdated information technology system they're in the process of updating. "I certainly feel the frustration of customers whose power remains out. Our hearts go out to them," Hervey said.

Exactly. The South would have been up and running by now. I’ll be damned if they would have turned away skilled labor from the north. Let New Jersey swim in the filth they have sewn.
Luckily, those non-union crews from the South returned home because they were not needed. Union crews should be able to drag out repairs and double/triple overtime until June or July of next year. Permanent repairs, and the necessary overtime, will take years. Just hope another storm doesn’t happen in the near future.
6 months to see a dentist in Canada. If you paid to see sooner you could get jail time. Not dire if that changed.
This is all new to me. 70’s - 80’s We lost power several days in winter with 0 to -16 weather. Had no generator, just wood burning stove for heat, cooking, bath water.
Nobody complained. Yes it was miserably cold.
NJ was first to sign bill of rights . Guess they forgot to bring up to the authors about power outages.

This is a GOOD thing!
These poor people who have been inconvenienced terribly by this awful storm should be singing songs of praise to Obama and his Democrats, and to their liberal Democrat Party elected state officials, for the massive effort they making to help them. And these poor suffering people should not forget to praise all of those Democrat Party union leaders who are striving mightily to return the lives of everyone back to normal. That's why this is GOOD thing! All of these important and caring Democrat party leaders and unions are in those people's thoughts and prayers tonight. I'm sure of this!

In all of this, I’ve not seen one person cleaning up their own property, or anyone elses’. They’re waiting for it to be done for them. In several tornado, hurricane disasters in my life, it makes the job of the power crews easier if you get the debris out of their way. These are not people I’d want for neighbors in bad times or good

The same was true after hurricane Alicia in 1983. The people helped each other and it was a slow process of cleanup. My heart goes out to people in distress, but you’re not doing much to help yourselves up there. You look more like Haiti than the USA

No, you are still Americans and you deserve the best this country can offer. Unfortunately your politicians and unions don’t feel the same way. Don’t be down on the rest of the country either, we sent crews to help. We are still Americans and want to help, we just aren’t allowed to sometimes. We’re not against New Yorkers in time of need no matter how they vote. Your politicians and unions on the other hand don’t care if you suffer as long as it is in their best interest
That and health care. When I pointed that out to a liberal once, they responded with, "that's only because health insurance wasn't around yet. If it had been, the founders would have included it.". Guess that would apply to power and EBT cards, as well.
They ought to be protesting out in front of the local IBEW office instead, after that union’s bigwigs turned away non-union help.
