And now he has gone and 'fessed up to it himself, someone would sooner or later wonder why he was 'fessing up unless someone threatened him with it in the first place.

I mean, seriously, usually elites get to retire without humiliation, with one scratching the back of the other. General Ham just had to say he was retiring to take care of an ailing relative or wife, and no further questions were asked, because it does happen. I recall Ham visited Las Vegas a day or so before Obama went there. There's no reason Petreaus couldn't offer the same explanation for leaving, as Hillary and Eric were said to be leaving too, and neither are accused of affairs or admitting to any.

So why did he visit the WH and tell Obama he was having an affair when he could have just told the president he was exhausted and wanted to retire to a beach somewhere, and leave it at that, with no one the wiser? Something had to change the status quo of the relationship, and if it wasn't the lover feeling slighted, it was probably a threat of exposure from someone else, such as a President or one of his advisors, or a Senate staffer. Why confess an affair to the public unless he was being blackmailed? Someone must have threatened to expose the affair or he would have continued it, or would have cut it off if his conscience couldn't abide to continue it, none of it requiring public announcements.

BOOM.

Has anyone posted the drudge newsmax article?

This devastating stuff from the current drudge headline newsmax article:

Still, the White House, with concurrence by the FBI and Justice Department, held off on asking for Petraeus’ resignation until after the election. His resignation occurred three days after the election, avoiding the possibility that Obama’s ill-fated appointment of Petraeus could become an issue in the election.

FBI agents on the case were aware that such a decision had been made to hold off on forcing him out until after the election and were outraged.

“The decision was made to delay the resignation apparently to avoid potential embarrassment to the president before the election,” an FBI source says. “To leave him in such a sensitive position where he was vulnerable to potential blackmail for months compromised our security and is inexcusable.”
