I wonder how many posts were made on this site about Petraeus being a good presidential candidate. My experience in the military was a General having something on the side was not rare.

How many empires destroyed, countries lost, fortunes stolen and lives ruined due to women?

It's time to either ban them or license them.......they can't be allowed to run around unteathered.

This whole thing is insane. The timing, the conincidence, the affair, the “blackmail,” the resignation, the acceptance of resignation.

The “affair” ended shortly after it began. Just enough to hold over his head? And the FBI (answering to Holder, who remains in contempt of Congress) finds that he sent “thousands of emails” in pursuit of the affair’s extension. What gave the FBI the hint to investigate Petraeus’ safety?

Then we get to the stories told by Petraeus to Congress. As a result of blackmail or “friendly advice”? Call me naive, but I don’t think years of duty-honor-country can continue to condone such sabotage. The deal was, I’m imagining, that if he resigned, he’d get nothing good out of it: it’s one thing to resign as a matter of honor, another thing entirely when it’s a matter of dishonor.

Then there’s the security argument. Petraeus had opened himself and the agency (and the country) to pressure or blackmail because he was hiding a secret. Well, he’s told the secret. It’s out. How can he still be blackmailed by it? (Clinton wasn’t.) So if he can’t now be blackmailed for it, why did Obammy accept his resignation? Unless Petraeus had already broken, or was about to break, faith with Obama or his administration?

And the libs dare toss Watergate at us.

FBI agents on the case were aware that such a decision had been made to hold off on forcing him out until after the election and were outraged.

“The decision was made to delay the resignation apparently to avoid potential embarrassment to the president before the election,” an FBI source says. “To leave him in such a sensitive position where he was vulnerable to potential blackmail for months compromised our security and is inexcusable.”

The story here is not the affair!

The story is that Holder knew. And that means the White House knew.

And they let it go.

And who was running the arms dealing in Libya?

Not Petraeus.

Hey, I thought the new societal model for this country was European in origin.

Most Europeans expect this sort of thing. Translation is that we get all of the bad stuff and none of the fun stuff that the Europeans have been enjoying.

“Petraeus was commander of U.S. Forces in Afghanistan from July 4, 2010 until July 18, 2011.”

“The investigation began last spring, but the FBI then pored over his emails when he was stationed in Afghanistan.”

The FBI just happened to see an odd email from Petraeus and spied on him from that point on? And if obama knew he was compromised, why appoint him to the CIA?

They will now use the excuse that because he has lost his clearance, he can’t testify.

Why wAs Clinton’s affair okay but Patraeus’s isn’t? Patraeus is in the process of being scapegoated on Benghazi.

“FBI” in this context just means Holder’s agents with a federal badge.

Does anyone imagine a spymaster must have a squeaky clean personal life?

Holder’s agents are no doubt gathering opposition research on everyone who could be an ally or a threat (or both at the same time) as their full time job. The information is there to be used when needed.

Petraeus’ biggest crime is that he didn’t (as far as we know) have his own team gathering the same intel on Holder. J Edgar Hoover made this job one and had a life-long career regardless of who sat in the White House. Petraeus needed to have files on Holder and Obama and he’d still be in his job and his biographer still at his side.

Why would the FBI be looking at an Army Officer? That doesn’t normally happen. An affair would normally go to Department of the Army Inspector General (DAIG), the office that handles investigations into generals.
Maybe the FBI was looking at her?
