Asians made up 3.4 percent of the electorate. The Republican party turned off Asians with their harsh immigration rhetoric that spilled out during the contentious primary contest among the Republican candidates. Asians saw Obama more likely to pass immigration reform which would give Asians an easy pathway to citizenship. They saw Romney more likely to put through more restrictive immigration reform.

Why would Asian citizens with voting rights care that much about immigration reform?

I think they just tend to be liberal people. There is very low Christianity among Asian cultures. There is more of a tradition of communism in their countries.

The rhetoric would be fine if the GOP ever actually managed to accomplish something to end illegal immigration. The US absolutely does need to control it's own borders. But we never have, almost certainly never will - and so the GOP has managed to accomplish nothing to stop illegal immigration but has managed to end up antagonizing every immigrant group in the US. Incredible - the Democrats could never have planned it any better.
