Mitt Romney's campaign got its first hint something was wrong on the afternoon of Election Day, when state campaign workers on the ground began reporting huge turnout in areas favorable to President Obama: northeastern Ohio, northern Virginia, central Florida and Miami-Dade.
Then came the early exit polls that also were favorable to the president.
But it wasn't until the polls closed that concern turned into alarm. They expected North Carolina to be called early. It wasn't. They expected Pennsylvania to be up in the air all night; it went early for the President.
After Ohio went for Mr. Obama, it was over, but senior advisers say no one could process it.
"We went into the evening confident we had a good path to victory," said one senior adviser. "I don't think there was one person who saw this coming."

Yup....some people just can’t deal with the truth of this. Sorry you took so many hits out here yourself cause you did an excellent job.
Got it, but your list of things for a conservative to ‘hate’ does not include a certain person per say.
The criminals on the left had exact targets of people...
I’m just so freakin sick of being out played for the dark side. Somehow I believed our side had all the intellect, shame that can’t figure how to use it to crush a vile enemy.
They did do that, but they also created an ever wider net.
Hating anyone who has any success, did we not all see this the moment that dope got elected?
Sheer hatred for anyone who wants to deny them free crap, birth control being cited so often it was laughable.
And the loud band of freaky gays who succeeded in getting KIDS to roll their eyes at anyone who suggests gay marriage is wrong, now that was a neat trick they pulled.
This election all but took over my life and yet, evil prevailed, whether by manipulating the low info voters, or sheer fraud. Or most likely, both.
So? That's more than enough hate, and at real things that ought to be destroyed.
The criminals on the left had exact targets of people...
There's no sin in joy at the execution of justice; why limit yourself to a single, small group when you can castrate the whole group by advocating a single, uniform system of justice? (ie what has been called "blind justice.")
Im just so freakin sick of being out played for the dark side.
So am I. That's why I propose we "play dirty," by the rules mind you, but still in ways that actively hurt their positions.
Somehow I believed our side had all the intellect, shame that cant figure how to use it to crush a vile enemy.
That's because they're focused on second things, not first things -- when you do that you lose both the first and second things.
You sound starstruck. RCP got 49 out of 50 states just by mindlessly averaging poll numbers.
I’m with ya, time to get serious and if it takes getting dirty,, so be it.
That may be true, but we now know two and one half million less Pubbies voted for Romney than they did for McCain. Why? Sure, the demographics are not in our favor, and it might not have made a difference anyway who we ran. But whoever we run, that candidate cannot just announce, like Romney did, that he has a better plan and the other guy is a failure. He or she has to explain things and be willing to tell the truth about the socialist opponent damn the consequences.
I could never stay home. It just seems unfathomable to me to do so. But I respect those who feel otherwise. It’s their freedom, for now, they may live to regret it, but that’s what free will is all about.
I sincerely believe that America has not died. Hard times coming, but the story isn’t over. Fasting and prayer friend, fasting and prayer is the order of the day
You chose to believe the polls that showed Romney on top, even though a number of other polls showed Obama in the lead or a statisitcal dead heat (http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/latest_polls/elections/). Even the polls that you cite had Obama within the margin of error (what part of "margin of error" don't you understand?).
I understand quite well, thank you very much...
And while I understand self-delusional thinking also, this was not the case....I’m not the only one who bought into the prediction hook, line and sinker-half the political wizards did too.
How lucky we are here to have someone so realistic, clear-headed, sang froid and sympathetic....you must get a lot of requests for hospital visits.
But ruling out fraud in many cases is just as delusional as my thinking....
Have a great weekend, FRiend.
“You sound starstruck. RCP got 49 out of 50 states just by mindlessly averaging poll numbers.”
Starstruck? I am very much starstruck when the star is good at mathematics, statistics and sciences. I’ve studied/worked in these fields for years and when I see someone do amazing work like that, I admire the hell out of it, party id be damned. He is quite possibly the best statistician in sports and politics alive and probably the best in generations...some kind of savant anomaly.
He showed movement in FL two days before the race and called Obama .5 on that state.....every single pundit, columnist, political junkie on the planet thought Silver was off his rocker for making that call. I thought it was finally proof that he was biased and cheerleading the dems...but I was dead wrong and man enough to admit it.
Not in the crowd you hang around with.
Many of us saw this coming and warned the GOP over and over again.
Millions of Romney votes were either moved over to Obama's pile of votes (a la Bush/Gore in Florida a few elections ago)Don't run another liberal/moderate.
Fight illegal voting.
Fight voter fraud.
Run a Conservative candidate. (Liberals won't vote for liberal lite when they can vote for hard core liberalism)
Watch the polling places closely for invalid/multiple voters.
George Soro's owned the machines in 27 states and the GOP did nothing about that. It's who counts the votes that dictates the outcome of elections.
Heck, even Hugo Chavez's companies had vote machines here!
It's the GOP with their inept and lackluster policies that got Obama elected.
ACORN is/was alive and well under new names in hundreds of cities across the country.
I never saw one mention of them from the GOP.
