Mitt Romney's campaign got its first hint something was wrong on the afternoon of Election Day, when state campaign workers on the ground began reporting huge turnout in areas favorable to President Obama: northeastern Ohio, northern Virginia, central Florida and Miami-Dade.
Then came the early exit polls that also were favorable to the president.
But it wasn't until the polls closed that concern turned into alarm. They expected North Carolina to be called early. It wasn't. They expected Pennsylvania to be up in the air all night; it went early for the President.
After Ohio went for Mr. Obama, it was over, but senior advisers say no one could process it.
"We went into the evening confident we had a good path to victory," said one senior adviser. "I don't think there was one person who saw this coming."

The only solution is to Go Greece then sort out what’s left.
Reagan won in a era before that brilliant early voting idea and voter motors laws were passed !
Both need to be stopped !
He also won in an era before the 1965 Immigration Act had a chance to really kick in.
Expect the rest of them to be similar. They have perfected the techniques and they own the DOJ - not to mention their vast hordes of moochers and looters!
I’m still in shock from 2008.
I think there are two good conclusions to draw on here.
First, for as good a businessman as Romney may be, I would think that he, of any candidate, would be the one who wouldn’t accept pie in the sky expectations like electorate makeup. I would think that he would have people studying in detail what the make up of his own vote was. I was reading the Time article about Obama’s data mining operation and wondering to myself what the hell Republicans are thinking NOT having this.
Second, Conservatism can easily win future elections for the next century. There is 35%-45% of the electorate that DIDN’T VOTE. I have talked to some of these folks, and they don’t vote because they feel that both parties are corrupt and padding each other’s pockets. They live their lives and don’t pay any attention to the political landscape because Government has little to no credibility in their minds. When I heard the GOP Turnout Machine was going after low propensity voters, I thought maybe this was the crowd they were going after. Clearly not.
I believe the attempt to go for the “moderate” Independent voter is a feint. They don’t exist. In looking at the turnout figures, you could see that in a year like 2008, when with the wars, and with Bush, and with the Financial Crisis, and with the inept John McCain as the candidate, 2 million more votes were cast for the GOP ticket. Why? Sarah Palin.
You had a person that regular people could identify with, who had actually run on fighting corruption and had done it. Who sold off the trappings of office to save her state money. She was the ultimate threat to the establishment, because she was the citizen politician. Even with all the BS about newspapers and her voice, she got that ticket more votes than this one did.
Conventional wisdom says that she can’t come back to politics because she has gone the celebrity route. In this body politic, I’m not sure that is the case. She has the right strain of libertarianism informing her conservatism to attract the disaffected.
He allowed an amnesty bill too sadly in the 80’s.

FUN FACT: Obama Lost in Every State with a Voter Photo-ID Law
Military Absentee Ballots Delivered One Day Late, Would Have Swung Election For Romney
What puzzles me about the links is this. Given that Bush43 and Gore fought tooth-and-nail for Oval Office over what was arguably lesser problems with counting votes in Florida, why did Romney seemingle concede race so quickly without a fight? Was Romney possibly nominated as Republican candidate to actually sabatoge Republican shot at WH just like rumors suggested that McCain was.
On the other hand, given that Obama's misguided government policies will inevitably cause big problems for everybody, do Republicans possibly not want blame for whatever happens in DC by 2016?
Finally, I don't like Bill O'Reilly because he never includes Congress's Article I, Section 8-limited powers in public policy discussions. So I was disturbed when he said that there were no problems with the elections.
So do I. He is a good man. He did his best and ran a clean campaign. None of us saw it coming. We all thought he was going to win and win big. Something crazy happened. I don’t know what it was but he doesn’t deserve disrespect.
I work with defense contractors all retired military and we all went with Romney...I don’t think any of us were really surprised at the outcome.
It’s all about this early voter crap .
How can we win when the dead beats are rolling around the country voting early in different states !
The lefties went to court to keep
Ohio polls open early and won !
I’m sure he will. It’s not like he has to go back to work Wednesday. Y
well so am I. My former colleague is literally laughing at the idea that obama is a commie. I can’t believe this nightmare
I read somewhere that perhaps the poll results were coordinated to reflect the outcome. Never thought I’d say it but IHOP! LOL
Grant did not.
Perhaps a bit oversimplified, but at least slightly relevant.
You’re right. Remember when you’d get kicked off FR if you said anything good about Mitt?

In my mind, with the correct messages and agenda, we could absolutely whip the Dems in early and election day vote. People aren’t responsive to a super rich guy who tries to talk about the middle class. Obama’s Bain campaign was a very successful vote suppression tool. Also, in retrospect, calling Romney a “BS’er” and “salesman” cemented the perception that Romney was full of it, pitching a deal so he could get in and give away the store to Wall Street.
A campaign centered on ending Corruption in Government would have pissed the “angry white guys” off enough to vote. Benghazi and Fast and Furious would have been things that move these folks. But alas, we chased the women vote by trying to sound peaceful and get-alongy. And in the end, they voted with their “lady parts”
The Obama campaign understands that their are a lot of stupid people in America. But instead of lamenting their existence, they figure out a way to speak to them and motivate them. We just sit back and say “damn, there are too many stupid people in this country.” instead of saying, “how can we get the stupids to vote for us.”
Stupid people don’t care about upward mobility in life. They care about sports, and ridiculous shows on TV. Stupid people are critical to society, and need to always exist so that smart people can get cheap labor for menial tasks. We need the stupid vote. And no, they don’t all want freebies.
I realize calling people stupid is brash and not very considerate, and I really don’t mean any offense. Its just a different value set.
