It’s a challenge. I’m very active in the Filipino community in the Bay Area. Around here, most are Democrats but nationally perhaps slightly more are Republicans.
One book that needs to receive more attention is “The Chinese in America” by the late Amy Chang. It’s a fascinating history of Chinese immigration to the US and their experiences. What was shocking to me was the terrible abuses and discrimination they experienced from 1850-1950 or so. While it’s not as bad as slavery, it was awful. The thing that struck me is they experienced all of this yet they are now more likely to be better educated and wealthier than white Americans. This blows a hole through the Democrat beliefs that blacks and Hispanics (I’m Hispanic myself) are victims of past racism and that’s why they need special programs and affirmative action. If that’s true, why are the Chinese prospering here? No group appreciates free enterprise as much as the Chinese. We should start there.
I have found much to like and admire in the Chinese people I’ve known. Very hard-working, very family oriented, great respect for education. A lot of values that Conservatives can all embrace.
