(Reuters) - Hours after U.S. President Barack Obama was re-elected, the United States backed a U.N. committee's call on Wednesday to renew debate over a draft international treaty to regulate the $70 billion global conventional arms trade.
U.N. delegates and gun control activists have complained that talks collapsed in July largely because Obama feared attacks from Republican rival Mitt Romney if his administration was seen as supporting the pact, a charge Washington denies.
The month-long talks at U.N. headquarters broke off after the United States - along with Russia and other major arms producers - said it had problems with the draft treaty and asked for more time.
But the U.N. General Assembly's disarmament committee moved quickly after Obama's win to approve a resolution calling for a new round of talks March 18-28. It passed with 157 votes in favor, none against and 18 abstentions.

I'm a pacifist, I don't own any...
No, more likely succeed with a DemocRAT-controlled Senate, and trigger a Lexington & Concord moment.
Mordor wants it, they'll get it, and that's where their "epic failure" will happen at the cost of millions of American lives in the next R2/CW2.
The Constitution will be upheld and defended against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
I received a postcard from the NRA for my local rep TODAY.
The few in the beginning may not get warning, but if they do it on a large scale, there is going to be push back and resistance. What is always quoted - 80 million gun owners? They won’t even be able to put a scratch in that number.
Besides, Obama’s signature on a treaty is Unconstitutional without Senate approval, and even with Senate approval no treaty can usurp a very understood US Constitutional right. And moreover, the next reasonable president would just withdrawal from any silly UN gun control treaty.
“Where the $%^&^ was the NRA in this election?”
****
Too busy performing a Lewinksy on their buddy Harry Reid. You know, the same Harry Reid who will shove the treaty through the Senate by eliminating the filibuster rule.
We need to make it plain that the 2nd amendment trumps a treaty
Gun Control will be delivered by the US Mail...man in a blue shirt with a letter from the IRS....
And Who Should They Have Supported?
Besides, they tried to change history and claim Myth was pro-2A.......many FReepers bought it too.
Further the NRA is garbage anyway......all they care about is $$$ and there is plenty to be had by prolonging and exacerbating the problem.
And I will be doing my part to ensure that they do.
Smith Wesson up 10% Ruger up 7% today (with the 300 point dive) For those interested look at the shares jump huge from yesterday’s close to today’s open
The first few houses maybe. After that, it's going to get to be a high-risk proposition.
A treaty is binding in the United States only if it is ratified by a two-thirds vote of the Senate. How many Republicans would vote to ratify?
They’re not going to send blue helmets to your house. They’re going to pass laws that make it impractical or unprofitable to manufacture ammunition or firearms for sale to civilians. Eventually you won’t be able to afford to purchase either.
Sadly, all my guns were destroyed by the hurricane. The ones that didn't fall overboard when the boat tipped over in the lake.
If there are EVER house to house firearm confiscations in this country, you will have lost much more than just your right to keep and bear arms. At that point, you may as well take as many with you as you can, because you will be murdered anyway, as you will be a “risk”.Also, if such did happen, only the first house would be a surprise. Everyone would know what was going on after that.
If the Second Amendment is neutralized, the rest of the Bill of Rights is finished.
Blue helmets make good targets. UN scumbags better not show up in my neck of the woods. There’s plenty of places here out in the desert to do the three S’s.
