U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill beat embattled Republican Congressman Todd Akin by a overwhelming margin in Missouri's Senate race Tuesday night.
With 99% of precincts reporting, the Democratic Senator lead Akin by a whopping 54.7% to 39.2%, according to the Missouri Secretary of State.
Akin conceded the shortly before 10 p.m. CST., the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.
"Things don't always turn out the way you wanted," Akin said in his concession speech.
He ran on a platform that criticized incumbent McCaskill for supporting Obamacare, the stimulus act, and her family's close ties to federal money, The Associated Press reported Tuesday.

YEP -- McCaskill saved her most effective commercial for last and that featured the words of McCain and Romney and Priebus attacking Akin for his views. McCaskill sends her thanks to the GOPe for her most effective political commercial.
“Once in power vote for pro life legislation but dont advertise it in the campaign.
Similarly, dont talk about budget cuts. Talk about the federal budget as the family budget and the need to prioritize spending so we as a country can live within our means.”
Boy, you must not be very bright. Next thing you’ll be telling me i should use available cover and concealment in a gunfight rather than standing boldly in the center of the street, like a real man, like in the movies.
You’re probably one of those nuts who would rather get hits on a bad guy than posture for the bystanders.
Id rather have had that commercial than the one of Romney and the GOP agreeing with that idiot Akin. And don’t kid yourself, Akin doing that stunt a week before the convention breathed new life into the war on women thing.
It was a punchline for the democrats in theor coonvention.
And just as we recovered all we could by early October, along comes idiot boy Mourdoch, a few days before the debates, speaking for the lord about rape.
How about a commercial where they just keep their mouths shut -- like they said Akin should have done.
Thanks for all your brilliant political analysis.
This is the reason young men won’t follow you. You never say anything that is not politically correct. You all are knee-jerk enforcers for the wrong side.
“Political Correctness is Marxism, with all that implies: loss of freedom of expression, thought control, inversion of the traditional social order and, ultimately, a totalitarian state.”
Sarah Steelman would have been a better candidate, hands down.
If you actually made sense it might be more convincing. I am not a knee jerk anything (in fact my right knee doesn’t jerk at all since the pins were put in many many years ago)
You wouldn’t recognize a man driven by ego rather than faith if he had a God written sign over his head.
And by the by I am asking no one to follow me so get off your dumb soap box. It is drowning you in suds
BTW, Akin is quite the leader..
That’s some knot you tied, LOL.
Here’s the bottom line, America will decline until we ask God for help. We can’t do that while we kill babies.
I’m not defending Akin. Every politician makes mistakes and the media picks one to “gotcha”.
You are the tool, the PC enforcer, for the enemy - no matter if the topic is abortion or whatever. Stop it.
I think without Akin, Mourdock probably would have survived his gaffe on rape. Although it’s hard to say.
I agree with what someone else posted last night. The word “rape” should never be uttered by a white male republican again, except if he is actually being raped.
At least, until we find a spokesperson who can actually explain why we don’t kill children because of the sins of their father.
Drivel
You’ll probably get hell for that post, but it’s true. It costs the GOP more than it gains almost certainly. And sometimes by a large margin. The country is getting less religious really fast too, and it’s a killer with women.
Aiken destroyed himself. So did Mourdock.
Hopefully all the socons will take some time do really do some soul-searching today.
Just because something shares your views on abortion, or other social issues doesn’t make them good politicians, or even remotely electable.
From O’Donnell and Sharon Angle, to Murdock this pathetic selfish loser Akin, they need to stop voting for idiots in the primary. Just stop it. You are killing us.
While demographics may have changed I do not buy that Conservatives can no longer win. I do, however, subscribe to the belief that Conservatives who are also idiots can not win. If you insist on making inflamatory (and in Akin’s case idiodic) statements then you need to be prepared to be beat on the head with them. A smart politician understands not only his values, but how to effectively sell those values to a broad and diverse electorate. Akin may be a wonderful Conservative Christian, but he was one terrible candidate. It really is as simple as that in my opinion.
What did YOU do to stop abortions? Get a democrat elected who ensure more money to planned parenthood?
I live in Missouri. There is no one more more upset than I was by Akin's words to a known liberal reporter. Akin's words were recorded and no apology was going to unring that bell. The haughty Coulter/Rove Romney of the GOP-e sure would not let those words leave a ring around their collars.
But I could make the same case about Romney. While I voted for his ticket, strange is it not after all the money he spent in Florida bashing Newt in the primaries, he was rejected by the voters of Florida.... Romney never used his wins in the primaries strategy against liberals. Some things just will not go unrewarded.
Mitt conducted himself like Ike did in his political prime. He was no crotch fighter...
