People who do witnessing and evangelizing will tell you that, unlike in Billy Graham's heyday and the era of the First and Second Great Awakenings, there is not a Biblically based understanding of morality among the people at large. Criminals from the American past, like the gangsters of the 1930s or the outlaws of the Old West, did not challenge the Biblical moral code, but defied it. Jesse James, Butch Cassidy, Al Capone, and John Dillinger were immoral men. They knew they were doing wrong, but were given to what the apostle Paul called a reprobate mind. The average Obama voter is amoral, rejecting any morality but "what's in it for me"? The average Obama voter is more dangerous to the future of the country than the train robbers and bootleggers of yesteryear. It is no surprise, then, that homosexual "marriage" was approved. Liberal states like California rejected it but a few years ago; now liberal states, even ones like Maine with substantial Catholic populations, approve these measures.

As for legalizing marijuana, the defeats in this area may reflect a weariness with a 40-plus year, unsuccessful "war on drugs". Why, for example, were Romney's call for a stronger defense and criticism of the Benghazi disaster ineffective in winning votes? Many voters have tired of an endless and inconclusive "war on terrorism". Failing government policies lose support.

I expect this is the case. Innocents are losing their lives, having their homes invaded, and watching their dogs become shot over this War on Drugs. The government solution has proven worse than the “problem” it vowed to “correct”.

The “War on Drugs” and the “War on Terrorism” are really two parts of the “War on the Constitution”.
