Shortly after multiple networks projected that Republicans would retain control of the House, Speaker John Boehner took to the stage with a message that looked ahead to the battle over the fiscal cliff - the GOP isn't budging on taxes.
"With this vote, the American people have also made clear that there is no mandate for raising tax rates," Boehner told supporters at the Ronald Reagan building in Washington.

Boehner feels bad about the loss of an election. I need a way to avert the loss of our nation. B Hussein *hates* us and our America, and the “legislation” he pushed through congress during his first two years will concentrate all power, first in the executive branch, and then in the oval office. Impeachment? Not with dingy Harry still running the senate. “Inherent contempt” of congress? Could he step on any bothersome US Representatives without reprisal? Dunno.
Nothing really changed in this election except for a couple of states. Now we know when a RINO performs well, he still falls short. If they nominate a third RINO in a row, they will deserve what happens.
The main problem is, as you have illustrated, we cannot continue trillion dollar deficits. And Obama cannot stop the spending. And any tax increases in this weak economy will be non-productive. They will not produce more then they destroy, since businesses are just hanging by a thread. So economic collapse is more or less assured, especially when you factor in the middle east mess.
Yes he can. The legislation is in Obamacare, tucked in quiet corners where very few have looked.
“There will be higher taxes. Why? Because to avoid disaster both sides have to compromise. We need to lose Boehner and all the establishment with him.”
Really? And higher taxes mean more revenue, right?
You’ve been here since when? 05? And all this time you still believe that higher taxes are a good thing? Well, what tax rates do YOU think might be high enough. 90% top rate? Sounds good to me. Oh heck. Let’s compromise and make it 85%!
Good God I’m surrounded by idiots. Not you of course. You’re just “misguided”
It’s a scripted deal. Sequestration will be delayed until the end of March (several Senators hinted that they’d agree on that part, and the House will accept a one-time delay).
But one has to be fairly confident that there’s no compromise that can be laid out and a massive cut will come in April/May of 2013. Expect 100k government workers in the DC region to be laid off, and never hired again.
Chances of an accepted budget by the House and Senate for 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016? Zero. The business community will just sit back and watch this...with no real thrills about better economic times.
It’s like a WWE-wrestling schedule....all drawn out and comical in nature.
As well it should be.
Unfortunately however, the perfect environment for WWIII with Iran going nuclear.
re: Obama can’t Executive Order the debt ceiling or any type of funding.

Who will stop him?
Remove the “castriani”
and give us a leader with ‘cajones’
The republicna leadership leaves much to be desired !!
Iran will the least of the problems. Russia is playing her games(Iran is one of her chess pieces) behind the scenes along with China. The world economy is in a spiral downwards over the long term. If enough countries experience a depression like state at the same time, then those states will be looking for external reasons even if they have to create them to distract the people. That is a very dangerous situation. China’s and Japan’s scuffle over the Senkaku Islands is one such example. Without leadership here at home from anywhere, it only adds to opportunism by other countries to take advantage.
John Boehner and his GOP House is the thin line separating us from becoming a Hugo Chavez-like tinpot dictatorial socialist banana state.
“Divorce is the only solution. We need a conservative party.”
There are plenty of conservatives in the GOP, the problem is not enough conservatives in the GOP, the problem is NOT ENOUGH VOTERS VOTING FOR CONSERVATIVES IN THE ELECTORATE.
Your ‘divorce’ will get leftwing Democrats elected again and again.
Oh, please.
Congress is irrelevant. Either the GOP caves or Obama will find a workaround.
Precisely. Should add though that Iran will be Israel’s problem. And while Israel deals with them, the entire region will be chaotic. (IE - No or reduced oil shipments).
Any leader with a majority of votes can get a bill passed. He should not get credit for passing legislation that he knows will go nowhere because the senate will give him cover.
Where was his public advocacy for any important issue?
Where has been the fight in a public forum for a budget to be passed?
I know he can’t control the senate, but he could try to publicize and make an issue out of it. Months would go by and he was totally invisible, as was the rest of the House.
But as long as he could cover his own ass, he didn’t care.
So, remind me again how tonight worked out?
We tried it your way. Got your tickets for the Romney Inaugural Ball?
We don’t have enough people voting for conservatives in the electorate because they belong to a party that squelches and stifles them as a matter of policy.
Free conservatism from the Republican Party. It’s the only way to save the movement.
After tonight, you will see little of me. I'm going Galt.
That would be awesome. Repeat after me:
Obama will call, say “no,” and Boehner will drop his head and say “okay” and that will be the end of it.
