Is there not one single story, just one individual, who put his or her own need for self-actualization aside to help those in need in the NYC area? New Yorkers have supported these runners year and year, and yet no one can step forward and say thank you for the opportunity, how can I help?

This is why when I’m driving and I see elitist types like this woman here and cyclists dressed in their cycling get-up ,like some modern version of a Medieval Harlequin, I come as close as I can to running them off the road without actually hitting them.

The one group of runners who do have a legitimate complaint are those people who traveled from all over the world to get here the other day, only to find that the event had been canceled.

Bloomberg should have announced the cancellation as early as Tuesday last week, or Wednesday at the latest. His idiotic fixation on holding this race in the aftermath of the worst storm to hit the region in more than a hundred years was a huge blunder.

Caring only about themselves, in their little world, with no room for other people.

The city was going to use generators for the marathon. There were people without power and food.

The conclusion was obvious, and Bloomy made the right decision, even if it was reluctantly.

All I could think about while reading this article is the old Monty Python Upper Class Twit Competition sketch.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5ba1OKY7Xc

Maybe they could re-do it as the Upper Middle Class Twit Competition.

The mayor made a huge error in judgement not canceling the race as soon as he became aware of the magnitude of the distruction in his city & surrounding neighborhoods. The runners would have not flown in. I’d be upset if a leader couldn’t grasp the situation and cancel the race & i got on a plane ONLY to learn that the race was cancelled once I got there. He should think about retiring. Cuz he won’t win another election. Another fine example of leading from behind.

I know a lot of people who do marathons and triathlons. I'm sure there are lots of readers here who participate in these races. Their commitment to a healthy lifestyle is to be commended. I have also worked many races in my community, both marathons and triathlons, so I have encountered these people first hand.

I have to say that there are some people who run who have serious obsessive-compulsive disorder issues, sometimes by their own admission. They are fixated on their training or their race, to the disregard of everyone around them. I have witnessed race participants completely lose it and start screaming at race volunteers. One time this happened in front of me and the woman was yelling at a 16-year-old volunteer who had taken time out of her weekend to come and help and wound up in tears. All because the girl couldn't find her registration packet. I stepped in and told the woman that if she couldn't control herself, she was going to have to leave or I would have her escorted out. Later, I looked up her name and found out she was a physician. The whole incident completely soured me on helping out at these races.

So this attitude among the racers does not surprise me one bit.

If you want to run, there’s a whole big old nation out there Forrest. So STFU, find a road and go run somewhere.

But as long as you’re in New York, why don’t you put on your big boy pants and go lend a hand instead of whining.

why would these idiots fly to a devastated city? How many tickets to Dresden were used after the bombing? Do these jokers have no common sense? Who goes ahead and flies to a devastated area if you are not going to help? Ridiculous.

Bloomberg’s an idiot because in keeping the vent until the 11th hour then runners came to NYC from all over the world and now have nothing to do. As such they are taking up resources and wasting time in the area. Failure.

Marathoner Heather Nerhood, after flying in from Texas for the now-canceled race, couldn’t just cool her heels Saturday.

Go back and run around the plains of Texas for a few weeks...

Self centered, arrogant or pompous freaks.

Why, yes, Ms. Eliza Wierzbinska and other NYC Marathon runners, you were robbed by the incompetent Mayor Mike Bloomberg. Mayor Mike could have canceled or postponed the Marathon when the storm damage was still coming in and all reports were bad. But, no, Bloomberg wanted to get his hands on all your money to be spent in the Big Apple. By canceling so late, all the participants and guests are stiffed with bills that have to be paid, even though they never went or participated. These people are right to be highly p.o.’ed.

The other people who are p.o.’ed are the victims of Hurricane Sandy. They are being screwed by governmental incompetence on the local, state, and federal levels. How about that FEMA, boys and girls? Completely unprepared, but they get a pass because a Donkey is POTUS. How about those kind souls in the IBEW Union that refuse to allow non-union work crews restore power to ease the suffering of fellow citizens? How about Mayor Bloomberg saying the NY ANG must be unarmed if they work in his city, because only NYPD can carry arms here [and the thugs]. Is it the police union or just Bloomberg being the anti-gun moron he's known to be? Then there's Obama’s and Christie's photo op. Political theater, except people are still without water, food, heat, and shelter and neither of you accomplished a thing.
