Thousands of people have rallied against American deployment of Osprey military aircraft on a southern Japanese island amid escalating anti-U.S. military sentiment following recent crimes.
Protesters gathered Sunday at a Tokyo park demanding removal of 12 MV-22 Osprey hybrid aircraft from Okinawa. Ospreys were deployed in October despite local opposition over safety concerns following two crashes elsewhere.
They chanted, "Ospreys out! Marine Corps out!"

Bet the ChiComs organized this.
They had their chance to do something about it in 1945.
I’ve seen the Japanese Army in action. They might want to re-think kicking us out...
Hippie whiners are a real pain in the ass. When we took the Apaches to Germany to be stationed there, there were protests all over the place. They all were planned, organized and staged by a bunch of college ***holes from the U.S. The majority of the Germans didn’t give a ****.
How about the protests against having our Pershing 2 missiles there back in the ‘80s?
The Japanese fought tenaciously, brutally and with great ardor in World War II, but the officers seemed indifferent to causalities, and they got lots of them as a result.
Bring them home. Bring the Marines home. Bring home all the troops who shore up the economy of their towns.
Bring home the fleets that allow japan to not spend their own money to defend themselves.
Bring the troops home NOW !
The majority of West Germans realized that if not for Harry Truman and the A-Bomb, they would have been a Soviet satellite. Prior to a German election shortly before the deployment of the P-II's, the Soviet President (not the Prime Minister) visited West Germany and made a speech in which he said that the Soviets had one nuclear weapon for every square kilometer of West Germany. Basically, he told the Germans to do what I say or else. The Germans went to poles and elected a pro-US government by a substantial majority.
The Chinese should realize that if they do not check North Korea and stop threatening Japan, they will end up with a nuclearized Japan and South Korea. Japan's economy may not be as big as China's but their per capita economy dwarfs China's, they have a lot more money to spend on a nuclear force.
Bingo. Let the historical number one enemy of Japan, Russia, take care of them.
This is not really anti-American, though it appears that way. In fact Okinawa is mad cuz while it is TINY compared to the rest of Japan it plays host to something like 70% of all foreign military. So what they’re trying to do here is remind mainland Japanese of that, in order to extract some kind of pro-Okinawa concessions, like construction funds, or other benefits.
These are lefties and pro-Okinawa people, and I have to concede that it appears anti-American as heck.
The guys I saw (infantry company) had very little to no grasp of the basics. Their line guys were about on par with what I saw/experienced in basic training. Even their Platoon Leader thought it was a good idea to do a recon completely by himself with his rifle slung on his shoulder.
All I could think was, “This isn’t your grandfather’s Japanese Army!”
Squeeze an Osprey and you get Lemonade.
Tell the japs to shut the hell up or they can entertain the chi-coms when we leave.
“Bet the ChiComs organized this.”
You might be on to something there.
Back in 1977, I was the USMC liaison officer to the Japanese police during demonstrations against the closing of a farm “road” (small dirt track) during an annual artillery firing exercise. There were 700 Okinawan police & 800 mainland Japanese police to deal with the protestors. I flew in one of the Japanese police Hueys looking for “student protestors” who might have sneaked into the impact area, hoping to become martyrs for the cause. The previous year one had climbed a tree in the impact area, only to be knocked out by a shell hitting nearby. Instant hero to the cause. He lived through it all!
We found one guy on the periphery of the impact area. The Japanese SWAT team on board rappelled down, grabbed & cuffed the guy and then threw him on board once we landed. Back at the police base, over boxed lunches (Japanese box lunches are a hoot!) the police explained that this guy, in his mid 30’s, was a long time, hard core Marxist agitator.
Everyone loves a good story over a bento and a cup of Sake,
