Lots and lots of people didn't prepare. Financially, physically, whatever. And they were out on the street.
I prepped financially by owning my house outright. When investments and income crashed in 2008, I had the good fortune to have prepped well enough that I could eat on what I had on hand, because I always buy bulk at a discount.
I didn't wind up homeless, I didn't go on public support.
I was able to restore enough income to limp through.
Things are better now on the financial front, and after what I've been through, you can bet I've gone back to buying in bulk at discount. It's a conservative thing to do to not pay retail.
