So does each borough have its own mayor? Is Bloomberg just the mayor of NYC?
We’re ALL NYC people, just 5 different flavors.
Okay so Bloomberg is mayor of all the boroughs too?
Each borough has its own President and City Council Representatives. They don’t have much power, but they do have influence (it is New York after all).
” It made no sense to devote even one iota of resource to this marathon given the current situation in the metropolitan New York City area.”
The “resources” are there for activities like this Marathon, as well. Are you saying that the marathon organizers, participants, and vendors are freeloaders?
Not only the city has unfortunate people who suffered through the storms, but also unfortunate marathon organizers/runners/vendors who have to suffer through this batsh*t populistic craziness.
Rush put a stop to that Shiite.
So basically what you’re saying is that Bloomie has jurisdiction in all the boroughs? Seems like he just rules what goes on in NYC (Manhattan) and lets the boroughs fend for themselves; unless of course it’s in his interests.
M, kay. Thanks for that.
Probably called it off after considering what the locals would do to the runners.
I’m disappointed . This would have blown up in his face big time.
Good. A Madison Ave PR firm advised him....that this was the Emperor’s Waterloo. Damn fool. I hope NYawkers don’t forget this day at election time.
If 'good sense' had anything to do with the decision, he would have canceled it two days ago.
He simply had a flash of terror imagining mobs of Staten Island, Queens and Brooklyn residents who can't get food, water, gas or heat storming his office with pitch forks for wasting scarce resources on a damn stupid race during a serious emergency.
If that were the case, they would need more Sheriffs in Jersey than there are people in Texas. ;~))
“a source of controversy and division”
He means he totally misperceived the public outrage that would occur. If he weren’t so tone-deaf, he would have cancelled this without a second thought and kept all those people from other countries from wasting their money to get here.
I don't think so. The Steelers announced today they are going to fly up on Sunday morning and fly back after the game because the hotel they had booked for Saturday is still without power.
I'm guessing the Giants and NFL don't really care if season ticket holders can get to the game or not. They don't want to mess up the schedule. As long as the TV cameras are there, they still make a ton of money.
It will be interesting to see how many no shows there will be in an always jammed-packed stadium.
“Hannity was really ripping nanny Bloomberg on his radio show.
Maybe someone was listening.”
Well, it wasn’t that maroon Hannity. He was still whining about it a half hour after Dumberg’s announcement.
As a conservative, I am naturally compassionate. And realistic.
Having never even visited NYC, I must keep referring back to maps to get a grasp of the scale of the flood and wind damage. By all accounts it is huge and widespread.
As a long term Florida resident, I am very aware that hurricane category storms, even a Cat 1, includes numerous tornadoes, and that a storm surge plus high tide is ominous to anyone near a coast. I shudder to think what adding cold temperatures into the mix would be like.
Thousands of people were already on their way to NYC with the distribution experience and physical items they knew would be most needed. Water, food, clothing, blankets, portable generators etc.
Money is worthless if you can't get to a store...
Who is insensitive/insane here?
The marathon should have been called off Tuesday, when the scope of the physical damage was known.
Next week, fine...NYC will bounce back quickly. Just not this quick.
You make a very good point.
Obama Drinking Game anyone?
Everytime Forward is said, take a drink.
Everytime Obama is said, finish the drink.
Everytime Obama/Bloomberg and Courageous is said, finish the bottle.
