Tyranny of the Healthy

As he begins his commentary in the New York Times, a former Obama administration official offers a breathtaking suggestion for American health care.

“We need death panels.”

Having arrested his readers’ attention, Steven Rattner explains.

“Well, not death panels, exactly, but unless we start allocating health care resources more prudently — rationing, by its proper name — the exploding cost of Medicare will swamp the federal budget.”

Rattner, a former Treasury Department counselor who helped design the $82 billion bailout of General Motors and Chrysler, has extensive experience on Wall Street and in journalism — but none in medical practice or administration.

Nevertheless, Rattner offers an example for American health care to follow.

Let’s hear him talk that way when the bureaucrats come to kill his mother. Oh wait, he’ll have an exemption for her case. It’s only your Mom and my Mom he wants to liquidate.

Yes, the liberals are the most compassionate folks out there. They have a heart that will bleed and a tear for those convicted of the most heinous violent crimes and sentenced to die.
Yet somehow this compassion is stopped cold when it comes to dealing with innocent lives. The unborn and the infirmed elderly stand squarely in their crosshairs as they will stop at nothing in their nihilistic quest.
If this is not the face of evil, then there is no such thing.

Already happening.

I heard there was a new rule that if a Medicare/Medicaid recipient hospitalized a second time in a month, they won’t pay a dime. Hospitals are going to have to deny patients care in order to stay in business at some point.

Here’s an idea: why don’t we opt out of the senseless and expensive conflicts in the ME (except to protect Israel) and stop sending tons of money overseas to our enemies. How about developing and using mostly American energy?

Maybe then we can have the funds to take care of Americans and American interests for once.

Many of these seniors have sacrificed and fought to make this country free and great. They deserve to be a national priority.

How will health care affect your life, ride a bicycle, a horse, a motorcycle or 4 wheeler off road, your chosen activity is at risk because of the statistics of accidents and the health related costs now controlled by a bureaucrat. When everyone has healthcare, no one will have it.

I think you’re missing the point. Socialism has never worked and will never work. The elderly and disabled will be the first casualties, but in the end nobody will have much in the way of health care (except the bureaucrats, politicians and politically connected).

what’s the point in giving care to anyone if this is the way it will end? No point in doing any more research to discover cures, new drugs.

Precisely. In Canada we have all become “our brother’s keeper”. Focused on which groups are consuming our collective resources. “This group eats too much of this and that group does too much of that.” In the end none of us will have much in the way of health care. I’m disabled, and I fully expect someone from the Ministry of Quality of Life to knock on my door one day.

Please understand, I'm not advocating socialism. The people in question are already receiving medicaid/medicare.

I assume that death panels and/or rationing are a consequence of a shortage of funds, as opposed to something more sinister, such as Agenda 21 for example.

My point is that scarce resources should go to Americans and bona fide American interests first. Therefore, I believe it prudent to stop wasting money in foreign entanglements and use that money to satisfy legitimate domestic obligations.

The generation that fought and won WWII and made us great in many other ways should get their due respect.

I’m with you on the foreign entanglements, but I also don’t believe in collecttive resources. The resources should remain the property of those that earned them barring charitable giving.

Here in America, Ubama and the rats are forcing us to be "our brother's butler".

The more they have to spend on the ederly, the less money they have for a bureaucrat’s $100,000 salary.
