General Ham has now been fired for following standard U.S. policy to defend American personnel. He took an honorable stand and was fired.
As much as this has been rumored in many places, I don't think it has been established as fact.

For the last four years, the Obama policy has been to offer aid and comfort violent Islamic radicals in the delusional belief that their loyalty can be bought. Arabs hold that out - the 'I can be bought' thing. It was done in Pakistan - offered to all takers - and wasn't worth crap... When will we ever learn?
