Wisconsin Democratic Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin could make history next week as the first openly gay member of the U.S. Senate, according to the final poll before the November 6 election released on Wednesday by the Marquette University Law school.
The poll showed Baldwin had a 47 to 43 percent lead among likely voters over Republican former governor Tommy Thompson, with 10 percent undecided or offering no preference. Two weeks ago, Thompson lead Baldwin 46 to 45 percent.
Poll Director Charles Franklin accurately predicted the outcome of the state's hotly contested vote on the recall of Governor Scott Walker last summer. Two weeks before the June 5 election, he predicted a 52 to 45 percent win for Republican Walker, who subsequently won 53 to 46 percent.

WRONG
No way the dyke beats the former governor. Ain’t happening.
I pray this is wishful thinking on the part of Reuterrooters....
Well, one can’t argue the counterpoints of your reply.
Deeply troubling.
A pretty reliable poll based upon their work on the Walker recall election. I hope they are wrong, but I am worried. Baldwin is EVERYWHERE with negative ads and, quite frankly, it took a long, long time for Tommy to get going after the primary.
Baldwin is crazy liberal. She should be an easy mark. I really hope this changes as time is running out.
FYI some details: The party ID in the new survey is D+5 (Dem 49, Rep 44, Ind 5) The party ID in the Oct 17 survey was D+1 (Dem 47, Rep 46, Ind 6)
Why did they change?
No internals included. It’s a depressing headline and story. It all goes counter to what I’ve heard and felt (I live in WI) and I suspect it is wrong. Emotions are high and even winning everything means rooting for Thompson and Romney... we are circling the drain, fellow citizens. I hope we can re-institute the actual Constitution after the crunch.
Wisconsin Senate poll...
Funny thing. I heard this poll interpreted the opposite way on the radio on my wawy home from work.
FReep mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
Apparently, Marquette is no better than the others.
When you don’t get the results you want, you just put your thumb on the scale until you do. D+5 is total BS. They must all be getting desperate.
I can’t beleive the indy’s are single figure. What were they in the recall election
Marquette University DID NOT accurately predict the recall. They had a “dead-heat” and, back here in reality, Walker was declared the winner before 9PM.
In the recall election, it was Dem 8, Rep 94 and Ind 54.
In 2008, it was Dem 39, Rep 33, Ind 29.
So I have no idea why the I’s are virtually nonexistent in these recent polls, outside of the obvious BS factor.
To correct my previous post on the recall, the breakdown was Dem 34 Rep 35 and Ind 31.
could make history next week as the first openly gay member of the U.S. SenateYeah, that's a good reason to vote for a Demwit. BOY is this running slow.
She could, if all you have going for you is name recognition.
Whatever.
D+ 5.
