Much of the East Coast is being evacuated in anticipation of Hurricane Sandy. Nothing wrong with that, and our thoughts are with the millions of Americans who are threatened by the worst weather event in some time. But not everyone is moving out. Today, this photo of Old Guard soldiers, standing guard over the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers, swept the internet:
ABC News reports that this particular picture was taken in September, but it nevertheless represents the spirit of the Old Guard:
Tomb Sentinels from the Armys 3rd Infantry Regiments The Old Guard have guarded the Tomb for 24 hours a day, 365 days a year regardless of the weather, since 1948.
Tom Cotton was on Hugh Hewitts show tonight. Along with his more dangerous Army duties in Iraq and Afghanistan, Tom served for a time as a member of the Old Guard, and he confirmed that the guard will be there, regardless of the weather, as a symbol of Americas commitment to her armed forces deployed around the worlda commitment that Barack Obama may have dishonored last month. We dont know for sure, since he refuses to answer questions about the decisions that he himself made. But Obama, in the longer view, is an unfortunate blip on the screen. In the meantime, lets honor the members of our military who stand guard over their fallen comrades. No matter what.
Very moving. Whether symbolic, or simply reverent, it touches something deep within that I cannot adequately name.
GOD BLESS AMERICA! LAND THAT I LOVE ...
GOD BLESS OUR SERVICEMEN AND WOMEN ...
HAVE FAITH, TRUST, COURAGE TO MEET THE CHALLENGES OF EACH DAY ...
GOD BLESS AND PRESERVE FREEDOM ...
IN JESUS NAME, AMEN

Notice the “Bayonets”.
“Horses” will still carry our high-ranking heroes to their honored graves.
No more champagne towers and Kobe beef for 0 and his friends.
A salute to the “Old Guard”.....
