Because it is 94% white. There are several almost all white states that are among the most liberal. Vermont is another. Those states can vote for their liberal politicians and not have to live with the problems liberal policies invariably cause in minority communities, and among the millions of illegal immigrants.
They vote for policies they don't have to live by, and they feel so good about themselves.
Reality still bites them in the ass every once in a while. Wasn’t Maine where all those somalis went because the welfare payments and handouts were better there?
