I think it was about three hours before Stevens body was found. The flames and smoke were long gone by then so I'm sure the attackers were too.

That does not mesh with the torture and rape rumors. Rumors other embassies had just a few days later from talking to those on the ground.

Rumors often don't mesh with the facts. That rumor only had one original source, a Libyan newspaper that quoted anonymous people on the streets of Benghazi, and no other news source has ever repeated it. Those anonymous people on the street never said anything about torture and rape either. The exact quote was "he (Stevens) was treated like Gadaffi." Which people who read that interpreted to mean he was sodomized like Gadaffi was with a knife while he was alive.

But it is a fact that Stevens was locked behind the bars of the safe room while the building burned and neither his companions nor Ty Woods' team could find him. It is a fact that he wasn't found until about three hours after the attack first began which would have been about two hours after Ty Woods team came and left with the survivors and Sean Smith's body. It is a fact that the crowd that found him took him to the hospital. It is a fact that a doctor tried to revive him. It is a fact that the crowd who took him to the hospital used Stevens' phone to try to find out who he was and reached the State Dept. Whether in Tripoli or DC I don't recall.
