Here’s a couple things to keep in mind regarding Iowa’s early voting. On day one of early voting, all 99 counties had the Dems hosting breakfasts and they all went in and voted together. That gave them the huge early lead. Since then, we have had one-day polling stations pop up at strange locations. NPR has a story on this. A Mexican grocery store hosted a one-day satellite polling location. There will be 53 satellite locations open on college campuses. The celebrities and musicians that promote Obama then get the students to vote at the one-day locations.

Even so, Repubs are gaining on Dems each day during early voting here in Iowa.

Do you recall if they did the same thing in 2008?

I don’t remember about 2008.

These satellite locations only require 100 petition signatures for each specific location. These voting booths are all used at political events, almost exclusively by Democrats. The Mexican grocery store booth was there when “Latinos For Obama” had a presentation. Bruce Springsteen played one day for Obama at ISU and then directed all the students into the satellite voting booth.
