“How did a storm, barely hurricane status, even acquire the Frankenstorm moniker?”

Because “Snowmageddon” was already taken.

Right, but, wouldn’t “Al Frankenstorm” have been more frighteningly fitting for the season?

It’s not just the hurricane. When it comes ashore it will run right into a cold front. Going in the opposite direction.

The warm, water filled air of Sandy will condense and dump all of that water.

And because they are moving in opposite directions, the storm will simply stall. And the high pressure system over Newfoundland will just hold it all in place.

The damage will come from the initial wind, and then two or three days of hard rain.
