When was he in the Situation Room with the NSC? Or was he never at all? He keeps parsing, talking about “being in touch with” the NSC, not “I was with my NS team” etc.
My guess is around midnight, it seemed like nothing could be done, should be done, so why not go to sleep? While his Ambassador was missing and being desecrated. He slept.
And nobody but him could order Delta or any other rescue attempt. Just the sad little QRF from Tripoli, which was getting stopped at airports like Inspector Clouseau visiting a Middle Eastern country.
God forbid Delta would just land in the Libyan Desert in C-17s, and or the USMC in helicopters and Ospreys.
Nobody could make that call but POTUS, and he went to bed.

President Obama has a long history of vaccillating, procrastinating, ignoring, delaying, anything to prevent him from actually making a real decision that he might be held accountable for.
In a crises, he reverted to form. He decided not to do anything.

For that few people in the Annex, who had shifted to secondary positions in hours of darkness, it sure was some incredibly accurate mortar fire, with limited ammo, to only take out the two ex-SEALs in the compound.
Maybe Stevens and Smith were collateral damage. I believe the guard out the safe haven window was called David Doogan?, he seemed to have survived after they couldn’t find either Smith or Stevens.
If the attackers didn’t know Stevens was dead or possibly even in the compound, the body sure got back to the plane quickly in the early morning hours after the hospital didn’t know who he was.
What really gets me thinking about this is that it is an attempted coordinated attack, at night, by forces reportedly not from the area, not that well disciplined, but then the NYT provides a timeline soon thereafter asserting the frontline attackers were part of a Libyan brigade also attributed with the overthrow of Khaddafy.
The real time videos from cell phones don’t appear to show any disciplined attackers, so if fully engaged at nighttime, they would quickly drain their ammo supplies.
Seems like the attack on the Annex is something performed with night vision assets for that much accuracy. Also with preplanned and propositioned weapons for accuracy. Perhaps some inside intel on reaction plans.
If it were simply upset militant tracking down their prey, they had to have had secure ammo and perimeter security to know the locals wouldn’t catch them from their rear.
They also have a fog of war, unless supported by foreign or friendly intel sources.
They seem to have been convoluted with political protestors as a cover for their intent.
Note, both Obama and Hillary have taken responsibility for the deaths. Maybe they really are,....but much more directly than the public could imagine.
