I think this may have been the “Plan B” scenario, given that the Allred surprise seems to be insignificant and there’s been a days delay in the judges decision. He might be holding back on Plan A until the Allred thins is resolved.

Correct on all counts.
It will look kind of suspicious if Obama does not release his records when a $5 million donation to the charity of his choice is on the line and he rejects it just to keep his records sealed.
But, I'm sure Axelrod will come up with some snarky response to Trump's challenge.
