Theory #1 - There is some juicy detail that everyone else is missing. Perhaps even Romney doesn’t realize it.
Theory #2 - Allred is counting on the media buzz itself to do damage, even if there is zero substance behind it.
I believe they are going to try to make a case for the following:
That during the divorce proceedings, Mitt downplayed the value of Staples in sworn testimony, hence his friend and the CEO's net worth, hence the wife got screwed in the divorce deal. (She's living an a 5K a month apartment in Back Bay, and is a total hypochondriac, I'll skip those details.)
... and that Mitt's testimony directly conflicted with Staples' SEC filings, which valued Staples much higher than Mitt claimed in court.
Hence they are raising accusations of .... PERJURY!!!! ... and of course, that Mitt is cruel to women.
I believe that's the gist of this.
If it had legs, they would have used it much earlier and let it play out. However, what they are hoping now is that the accusations do damage before the election, and is shown to be false only after the election.
Mitt's lawyer's response, that Mitt has no objection to the public seeing this testimony, is the best response I've ever heard to this kind of low life accusation.
Theory #3 - This is another chance for Allred to get her mug on camera.
