Personally, I look deeper at something like this.
Yes, calibrating the machine before using it would seem like the answer but... it appears this model of machine's default alignment of software/hardware is a little bit too convenient. This is the same way malware toolbars get installed on your PC, a default setting that the designer hopes you accidentally overlook during installation of unrelated software and they hope for a 1/1000 success rate. I saw comments from voters in other states claiming the same issue with this type of machine. All it takes is one machine here and there not being "fixed" each and every time before it is used. This also leaves no real evidence of tampering as one can simply say it's a machine malfunction... and no one is held accountable. I'd have to know a little more about the election setup on the thing... but if there is a process that basically says "type democrat candidate here", the suspicion level rises considerable.
