Mr. Obama, this picture is of American servicemen mourning the loss of a fallen comrade, who was killed on the field of battle. They kneel in great respect at the foot of what is known as a Battlefield Cross--the weapon previously carried by the dead, adorned by his helmet, dog tags, and boots. You will note the bayonet affixed to the weapon, firmly planted in the soil, and keeping it standing. The bayonet is still standard issue to those who go off and fight in our defense.
