"Reminds me of the story of the trial lawyer defending an accused murder with no corpse discovered. Makes a big dramatic closing, saying, “the supposed victim is about to walk through that door [to the courtroom]!” Everybody cranes their necks to see and, of course, nobody enters. Attorney makes his point that if so many looked, there’s reasonable doubt."

I think there was also a "Matlock" episode like this.

For no particular reason, I think of that defense every once in a while, with the people turning around.

Very clever defense!
