Denver - Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), was unaware that the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and President Barack Obama's "kill list" existed. This is why she would only take "serious questions."
Do the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and a secret “kill list” that the president maintains actually exist? Well, the NDAA has been reported on throughout the year and actually signed into law on New Year’s Eve and information about the kill list was published in a 6,600-word article in the New York Times.
We Are Change (WRC) attempted to catch up with Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Democratic Florida Congresswoman and Chair of the DNC, to get her thoughts about the two political topics, but she refused to engage any further.
Independent journalist Luke Rudkowski first tried to ask during a scrum about the president’s “flip-flop” on the NDAA and specifically the indefinite military detention without charge or trial provision. She dismissed the question by stating that “I didn’t hear it as a subject of debate tonight.”
Moments later, the video shows a one-on-one interview with the DNC Chair and Rudkowski probes her regarding the kill list. He asks how Republican nominee Mitt Romney would handle the kill list and if she is comfortable with him having such a kill list.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” replied Schultz, who was walking away from the WRC reporter. “I’m happy to answer any serious questions ... I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
Liberal lawyer and columnist Glenn Greenwald took exception to Schultz’s “ignorance” and published a piece titled "The remarkable, unfathomable ignorance of Debbie Wasserman Schultz" in the London Guardian. He stated that it has been widely known and reported on since Jan. 2010. Greenwald noted that Attorney General Eric Holder defended the measure in a speech.
“But Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the Democratic Congresswoman from Florida and the Chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, does not know about any of this,” wrote Greenwald. “She has never heard of any of it. She has managed to remain completely ignorant about the fact that President Obama has asserted and exercised the power to secretly place human beings, including US citizens, on his “kill list” and then order the CIA to extinguish their lives.”
Furthermore, Schultz’s lack of knowledge on the two topics drew attention on Twitter with many posting criticisms.
“‘I have no idea what you're talking about’. Debbie, we have no idea what you're doing in Congress,” wrote one Twitter user.
“Maybe Luke should have mentioned the NYT article, but then again...maybe she's never heard of the NYT either?” wrote another user in a Tweet.
