Harrisburg still waiting for push from 4th Congressional District candidates

For the first time since 1983, the race for the congressional seat representing Harrisburg is a wide-open fight without an incumbent.

The incumbent-free race comes as the city needs every advocate it can get.

Harrisburg is all but broke, and firm answers about who is at fault are not certain. The school system is underperforming and deeply in debt. The proposed federal courthouse could be the biggest government building project in the new 4th Congressional District — which includes the West Shore, and York and Adams Counties.

But with less than three weeks until Election Day, that hasn’t happened.

I live in the newly redistricted 4th Congressional District; the West Shore to be exact, also known as "The White Shore." The district is divided by the Susquehanna River, with Harrisburg being on the East Shore. Most of Harrisburg City is in the district.

When the redistricting occurred I immediately researched the impact, since the old district was solidly Republican and the addition of Harrisburg to the district could have made the district much more Democratic.

Fortunately, the redistricting will not have an impact. It will only take four or five townships on the West Shore and York Counties to offset the Rat vote in Harrisburg. By the way, The Patriot News is once again factually incorrect. There are not 33,000 registered voters in Harrisburg City. There may be that many with Harrisburg addresses outside the city limits, but not the parts of the city that lie in the 4th Congressional District.

The good news in this article is that all of the candidates are ignoring Harrisburg. I hope this is the case after the election. 80% of the residents of Harrisburg City are part of the 47%. May they never receive another tax dollar of mine.
