I am moving to the rural area for my first time.
It is 25 acres on a hill 3 sides with a long driveway.
When someone comes to my abode at night.
Do I greet them toting my Ruger 345 or would a .12 gauge short barreled 870 would be best in my hands.
I am thinking the 870. Am I thinking wrong?

You don’t want to drop anyone a long ways away even on your own property.
Unless all law has broken down.
