Ann Romney opened up about her struggle with Multiple Sclerosis during a surprise visit to a Cuban restaurant in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Saturday.
'I was very coordinated and athletic, and all of a sudden I'm falling and tripping and losing my balance and being so weak,' Romney, the 63-year-old wife of Republican presidential nominee, told diners. 'And I was like, "Something's wrong!"'
Romney was diagnosed in 1998 with the incurable neurological disease, which attacks the central nervous system and immobilizes many of its victims.
At the time, her husband was still working at Bain Capital, the venture capital firm he founded.
Ms Romney said she was an avid tennis player when she first started noticing her symptoms, which primarily affected her balance and coordination.
'It was really tough on my balance,' she said. 'I couldn't figure out what was going on. That was sort of what was happening. I was trying to figure out what was going on, what was wrong with me.'
The disease is hard to diagnose because it mimics so many other illnesses. Nearly 400,000 people in the U.S. are affected by M.S. with more than 200 new diagnoses every week, according to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The disease affects more than 2.1 million people worldwide.
Romney said her symptoms forced her to stop playing tennis.
'When I got really sick I stopped playing so much,' she said.
Romney recently revealed that she suffered a flare-up of symptoms during the Republican primaries, which she had decided to keep quiet from her husband at the time so as not to worry him.
'Of course, one of the triggers for M.S. and the flare-ups is constant stress in your life,' she told NBC. 'So nothing like a good old campaign to add to the stress,' she quipped.

Yeah that’s the ticket!!!!!!
This medical doctor cured herself of her MS.

My friend was bedridden with MS. Went to the faith healers in the Phillipines, Catholic + voodoo or something. She traveled on a stretcher, she was so debilitated. They ‘pulled black stuff out of her’ she said, during a ceremony.
When I met her, she was running marathons and doing research relating MS to ‘giving up when feeling overwhelmed.’ She died in a car accident, did not finish the research, but what a miracle.
What amount of time between your friends diagnosis, the trip to the phillipines/the cure, and the accident?
There are many things in this world that are unexplained by science..... but are crystal clear when viewed by other means.....
