The secular left despises the "superstitious" Christians. They openly mock the notion of God as Creator. They openly mock "your friend in the clouds!", "your invisible friend Jesus".
But the Democrats have come to realize that they will ALWAYS LOSE if they can't win over any religious voters. So they grit their teeth and try to win them over to the argument of "socialist justice". The Democrats started talking about the God Gap after the 2004 loss.
They don't even have to get the majority of religious minded voters to vote Rat, if they can do as they did in 2006 and convince some religious conservatives NOT TO VOTE because of the homosexuals in the GOP ranks ("oooh, culture of corruption!").,
