I visited NYC for a weekend in 1967 and that was enough for me. I never want to go near the place again. I found the average New Yorker very insular, uninformed, yet arrogant.

The average New Yorker knew very little about the real world outside of NYC and some thought that visiting New Jersey was going to a foreign country. Some New Yorkers even wondered if they needed a visa to visit states in “flyover country” — the Midwest and South.

I was stationed there for a short period in 1967, the women were willing and the food was good, but I volunteered for another tour in VN to get the hell out of the place.
