A hacker or an “angry” employee has overtaken the official NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s Twitter account to re-tweet rants against US Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

“@NASAJPL Why are you re-tweeing anti-Romney Tweets?” a Twitter user wrote in response.

Shortly after, the culprit started to delete the tweets, but at that point, Twitter was already buzzing because NASA was apparently getting very involved in politics.

“Items retweeted this evening were not intended nor approved for this account. They do not in any way represent the views of NASAJPL,” NASA JPL representatives wrote after regaining the account.

They haven’t revealed if this was the work of an employee or the one of a hacker who simply wanted to make a prank.

Twitchy.com captured many of the tweets involved in the incident.

Ryan offers harsh criticism during campaign stop in Ocala ".................One unusual question came from Laura Nelson of Ocala, who asked Ryan about Romney’s plan for NASA.

Ryan answered that Obama “misunderstands” the national security importance of the space program, and he railed against the “devastating” $1 trillion in defense cuts that loom under a budget deal Congress reached last year.

Ryan, like most House Republicans, voted for the deal in order to cut programs and reduce the national debt.

Ryan told Nelson and the rest of the Ocala crowd that a Romney administration would seek to rebuild the space program that helped make America the most exceptional country in the world.

“You have to have a space policy that puts us in the lead,” Ryan said. “It’s essential for national security.”

After the event, Nelson said she asked about NASA because she felt it was an important part of America’s history and identity, and that she was troubled by how Obama has handled it.

“It’s disappointing to see it come down to its knees, symbolically, and is one of the most awful things this administration has done — and they (have) done some pretty awful things,” said Nelson, who attended the rally with her 90-year-old mother, Libby Levne, who regularly volunteers at local Republican headquarters to make calls for Romney’s campaign...."

NASA is a “moslem outreach” program.

Thus, they’re rooting for the Obamatollah.

Doesn’t this waste valuable time better spent on outreach to Moslems?

The employee that tweeted this garbage and his/her supervisor should be immediately fired and their pensions revoked.

I am sick of government parasites insulting the very people that supply their income.

NASA should be auctioned off to private entities. If there is anything of value, the marketplace will judge.

Too much of government is deeply infested with evil far-left parasites. The only solution is elimination, not reform.

NASA, the one government agency Obama didn’t want to grow. The ONE agency that represented American exceptionalism. The ONE agency that spurred innovation and helped feed science and technology.

Yes! NASA needs a shake-up but America needs a national space program.

Obama fixed it so we have a program withering on the vine and political supporters like Elon Musk (SpaceX, SolarCity, Tesla) getting heavy subsidies and calling it the new way forward.

What we have is a HUGE mess, no leadership position in space and international partners who are wondering WTF?

The ONE agency that represented American exceptionalism. The ONE agency that spurred innovation and helped feed science and technology.

True in a sense. However, most of the advances attributed to NASA were successes of companies contracted to NASA.

I was a design Engineer with Honeywell. Honeywell had the contract to design and build the Shuttle Digital Flight Control system. Honeywell also did the MEC (Main Engine Controller) and other components of the Shuttle.

NASA then is not the NASA of today. The NASA of today is infested with leftists and is entirely too bureaucratic.

A better approach for advancing into space would be to award "prizes" for success. Private concerns would be much more flexible and efficient at advancing space technology.
