Republicans are picking off states while Democrats scramble
A political tectonic shift is under way. Heading into the final weeks of the presidential campaign, the electoral map is changing decisively. Areas previously thought safe for Barack Obama are becoming competitive, and tossup states are turning into safe havens for Mitt Romney. A month ago, commentators were claiming the roads to victory were closing for the Romney campaign. Now its the Obama camp hunkering down to make a last stand around a few critical states.
On Thursday, the RealClearPolitics electoral-vote map gave Mr. Romney the lead for the first time. President Obama had an 88-vote advantage two weeks ago, but now the challenger leads by five. This 93-vote swing took place chiefly because four states on the Great Lakes Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan and Wisconsin changed from leaning Obama to tossups. This combined 64-vote loss significantly broadened the territory the Obama team needs to contest.
Last week, Suffolk University pollster David Paleologos took criticism for saying Mr. Romney had a lock on Florida, Virginia and North Carolina, worth a collective 57 electoral votes. Today, that is orthodoxy. The New York Times Nate Silver, who still points to an Obama win, has Florida, Virginia and North Carolina in the Romney column as well as Colorados nine electoral votes, which many analysts see as beyond Mr. Obamas reach.

From people’s lips to God’s ears. The only people still invested in an Obama win are Nate Silver and his fellow MSM cheerleaders.
They won’t give up their worship of him to the bitter end!
Everyone needs to remember that it is our job to see that bitter end comes sooner rather than later
Mitt’s going to win binders full of states!
I hesitate to celebrate just yet, the corruption of this guy is only surpassed (maybe) by LBJ, though I don't believe LBJ hated our country.
If PA goes Romney, it will start a significant domino effect. If the voters in PA go for Romney, that means he should also pick up OH and possibly WI. An early call on PA has a big impact our west where Romney could seal up CO and NV, and possibly take NM. I predict Romney ends up north of 300 EV.
It’s looking like Dick Morris’ analysis was correct all along, that the undecideds always swing against the incumbent.
I’ve never been a big fan of Morris but I’m sure hoping he’s right. :-)
And, don’t you think that if Romney continues to surge and people who were undecided are in the voting booth and vote Romney/Ryan, they are also going to vote for Republican Senate or House candidates they are wavering on?
I just can’t see a Wisconsin voter, for example, who may be voting for a Republican for President for the first time, turning to the next column and sending lesbian Tammy Baldwin to the US Senate.
I just think the coattails will be big.
Dick didn’t get filthy rich by being wrong all the time. That honor falls to Bob Schrum.
Praying for enough to overcome Obamacare!
>Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan and Wisconsin
Hm.. Pa hasnt gone red since 1988 so I will believe that my old home state will select a repub when I actually see it.
Don’t think much of any chance in Michigan either, although if the money is there it would be good strategy to force the O to spend heavily to defend those 2 states.
Wisconsin? I really don’t know - maybe.
I believe that Ohio is the key player here in 2012 & I expect them both to spend very heavily there.
The Liberal migration didn’t help PA.
Good one Bump!
“An early call on PA has a big impact our west where Romney could seal up CO and NV, and possibly take NM.”
Have you never watched election night returns ??? The networks hold off ‘calling’ states they don’t want to credit to the R column. In (IIRC) 2004, they held off on VA as ‘too close to call’ until 10p or later (3 hours after polls closed). Bush had carried the state by 10 points.
The nets manipulate not only news stories, but the debates and election returns as well, until the last possible moment when they have no choice remaining.
Yup. More Alinsky Rules For Radicals.
The MSM is not our friend and won’t be on Election Night.
