Rice blames intel talking points for faulty Libya story; lawmakers raise new questions

U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice, in her first public comments on Libya since her controversial account days after the attack, blamed intelligence community talking points for the faulty narrative. The light-on-details explanation Monday came as Secretary of State Hillary Clinton took responsibility for any security failures leading up to the consulate attack last month. But with the accounts coming as both presidential candidates head into a debate Tuesday night that will focus in part on foreign policy, neither appeared to settle mounting questions on the Hill about how the administration got the story so wrong. Rice did not offer many details on the nature of the intelligence updates or whether they reflected a more nuanced version of events than the one she told the Sunday after the attack. In those interviews, Rice repeatedly claimed the deadly assault was a "spontaneous" reaction to protests over an anti-Islam film. The administration later acknowledged it was a coordinated terror attack on the anniversary of 9/11. Rice told The Washington Post that she used daily updates from the intelligence community and talking points prepared by that community for senior administration members before her Sunday show appearances.

The intelligence profession does not issue or distribute “Talking Points”. To state so shows a thorough lack of understanding of intelligence and how it’s processes work and what function it serves.

Silly me for assuming the intelligence community actually gathered intelligence, not crafting daily political talking points for administration officials!

Egads.

Blaming a spook is a really bad idea. They have very long memories, and are always willing to kneecap the careers of political types who have crossed them.

So now Rice is blaming Leon Panetta and his people? I'm sure Leon will like that.

Remind me what Susan Rice said when President Bush stated that the intelligence said Saddam had WMD.

Faulty Intel talking points were the problem?

1. Did this faulty Intel specifically make mention of the video?
2. Joe Biden places a lot of confidence in out Intel that Iran is not close to having a nuke. So, if our Intel was unreliable in Libya, on what grounds does this administration believe that our Iran Intel is reliable?

If you want to know whats going on in the world, you don’t bother with any obamist press releases. You go straight to your favorite blog site. The blogs knew what happened within hours of it happening. The “mainstream media” didn’t know for three weeks.

The DNC “mainstream media” is dying right in front of our eyes.

""It was purely a function of what was provided to us," Rice said."

The question is: "Since Rice does not usually get the daily security briefing, whom did she get the information that was "provided to her" from?

The mainstream media has given the Obama administration unchecked power, complete and absolute secrecy and full cover from scrutiny. Where were they during the previous attacks in Libya? Did they have a responsibility to report the deteriorating stability there? Of course they did, but it wasn’t a Republcan administration, if it had been, they would have been dogging them daily, front page news, top of the hour story, which would have been the.pressure needed to get control of the situation. MSM is solely responsible for the deaths if these people because Obama knows they have his back.

This is one of the most extraordinary episodes of CYA by an Administration in recent history. Everyone is blaming somebody else.
