SD probably has fewer murders in a year than Chicago does on an average weekend.

That's a fair statement.

SD has about 2.8 murders a year.

It also has a population of only 824,000.

By contrast, Obama's Chicago, with a population of 2,707,120, has on average 4.9 murders per weekend, with a median of five.

SD has lower murder rates than Chicago but it has does have far more lead flying. Of course, it is out in the fields. SD’s very low population density is a good thing. More than 1.5 million pheasants were taken in last year’s season. Last year, more than 10% of SD residents bought licenses along with another 100,000 non-residents. Saturday is the season opener so there will literally be several million shots being fired over the next couple months by upland hunters. Not to mention deer, duck, goose, dove etc happening. Oh, about $10 and a week of processing time (plus a clear background) can get you a concealed carry permit...

That's the homicide rate. The numbers total tend to range between 10-30 a year. I bet 95% of those are domestics. Population 824,000.

East St Louis has over 25 homicides a year alone. Population 27,000.
